The DTM racing version of the Audi RS 5 Coupé is even more aerodynamically extreme and progressive than its predecessors. Fitted with a four-litre V8 engine, the blue model with Red Bull logo and start number 5 earned its Swedish driver Mathias Ekström the title of runner-up in the DTM season. The Audi RS 5 DTM took over from the A4 DTM in 2012 as the A5 DTM in order to keep up with Mercedes and BMW. From 2013 onwards, it hit the starting grid as the RS 5 DTM. Although he has not been able to build on his past successes so far, he has been able to ride his way up to the podium in various teams and is also among the front runners in the drivers' standings. Mattias Ekström finished 6th in the overall standings in 2012 with the Audi A 5 DTM in the premiere season 2012. He finished 7th in 2013 and made it to the podium in 2014. With the successful model of the RS 5 DTM from the 2017 season, Ekström made it to second place. This season, the DTM was dominated by Audi – with four Audi cars finishing in the top four places
