~Tab Porsche's first victory at Le Mans
The Porsche 917 was one of the most successful racing sports cars of its time, winning several overall victories for the first time in what was then the largest displacement class. In the 1970 racing season the wedge-shaped short tail with optimised handling was created. The French 24h race in the same year was very important for Porsche's new model. Porsche Salzburg sent the Porsche 917K with the number 23 to the start line. With Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood at the wheel, the race car in a striking red and white paint finish won the race and went down in history. The Porsche 917K was one of the most successful race cars in the sports car championships of its time. With its two body types, it could be used in long and short distance races. Its powerful V12 engine with over 500 bhp helped him to win in the first years, both in Europe and in North America across various racing series. One of the greatest successes was winning the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970, which helped to shape Porsche's image as a sports car. And it still manages to do so today.
